The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the top division and handed Everton their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the scores a short while after Van de Ven's opener, directing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a number of chances, while Vicario made a succession of fine stops to guarantee the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing the match official to review the score on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves the manager's team up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and are half a dozen points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils role at each end of the field

Following a drab midweek display in the European competition against Monaco, where they mustered a mere two shots on goal, Frank opted for the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was unable to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be feared.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball back across the six-yard box for an free the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as skipper in the Argentine's absence - added his second in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defensive duties, partnering well with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Toffees lacking striker's instinct

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have faded slightly and fans headed to the exits after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a major worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's two recognised strikers - had netted just one league goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to add to that miserable record on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, even with having space and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, too, was unable to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of chance. Most of Everton's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped threatening crosses into the Spurs box.

The Toffees: Moyes' men travel to Sunderland in the Premier League on early November at 8 PM.

Spurs: The London club go to St James' Park on Wednesday, 29 October for their fourth-round Carabao Cup tie against the Magpies.
