PSG Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
