Sovereign to Share First-Hand Address on Cancer in Nationwide Address

The Monarch has filmed a personal message about his journey with cancer, which will be broadcast as part of this year's annual cancer awareness initiative, run by Cancer Research UK and a television broadcaster.

Official sources confirmed the King would talk about his "healing process" as a person living with the disease, in a recorded address on this Friday at 8pm UK time.

The address, recorded at his London residence a fortnight ago, will emphasise the critical nature of preventative health checks to help guarantee more people catch the disease at an initial point.

This constitutes a uncommon insight on the medical condition of the King, who has been undergoing regular treatment since revealing his diagnosis in early last year. However, it is believed improbable the King will disclose his specific form of cancer.

The Campaign's Core Mission

The Stand Up To Cancer event each year collects money for medical research and treatment and prompts people to get health assessments to improve the probability of an prompt identification.

The King's candid approach about his condition, and his experience as a patient, has been intended to increase understanding and to get more people to get checked - and this will be taken a step further with this unusual royal involvement.

To date the King's key philosophy to his cancer has been to keep working, preserving a busy schedule alongside his frequent sessions of treatment, and he appears not to have sought to be characterised by his diagnosis.

The past twelve months has seen the Sovereign, taking several foreign visits, notably to Italy and Canada, and hosting the highest tally of inward state visits to the UK for almost 40 years, featuring the German president in recent days.

Charity Special Show

This Friday's charity programme on Channel 4, hosted by well-known figures including a team of famous hosts, will urge people not to be afraid of getting cancer checks.

The hosts have been had experience with cancer - one host disclosed last month she had undergone surgery for a tumour, while Balding was treated for the illness in the past. Comedian Adam Hills has previously discussed his father, who had a diagnosis and then later leukaemia.

The programme will target the roughly millions of people in the UK who health organisations says are not current with national health programmes, with an online checker to let people see if they are able for tests for several common cancers.

In an bid to explain cancer checks and demonstrate the importance of prompt detection there will be a real-time transmission from treatment centres at two Cambridge hospitals in Cambridge.

"My aim is to remove the anxiety out of preventative tests and show all people that they are not alone in this," commented a presenter.

Available Screening Programmes

Currently in the UK, there are several key NHS cancer screening programmes - for specific cancers - offered to eligible individuals.

A recently launched lung cancer screening programme is also being slowly rolled out for anyone at increased risk of contracting the illness, focusing on people aged 55-74 years old, who currently smoke or were former smokers.

Individuals may enquire about prostate screenings, but there is not a universal scheme in place.

Funding Research

The charity initiative, which has generated over one hundred million pounds since 2012, is supporting multiple clinical trials encompassing thousands of patients.

The Monarch, in a address for dignitaries at a gathering for cancer charities in earlier this year, had referred to recognising the "intimidating and at times frightening experience" for those diagnosed and their families.

But he said his experience of managing cancer had demonstrated that "periods of great challenge of disease can be alleviated by the support of carers," as he thanked those who supported cancer patients.

The Palace has not made public the nature of cancer the King has, or the medical care he has been given. The King's cancer was identified following he had undergone a routine operation.
