It's a challenge for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the record chasers, are what's still available for a side that has accomplished all there is.

The fact it required up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the largest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the pitchers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It is hard for their batsmen to hold a record if not afforded the opportunity.

Finally, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to produce her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her first appearance and seven international trophies have come from 10 tries across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the final and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

If this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Certain people claim the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this innings was preceded by six games in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in training, it's been a challenging time because it seemed I lacked timing at all," stated Healy.

"But once you take the field, your competitive instincts kick in and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and from that point Healy was underway.

"An opportunity to take the field and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

By the time she was out the team needed 66 more at one run per ball - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the assurance to do that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, should it happen, we are confident we can succeed."

These statements will be the last rival teams at this World Cup should hear.

During the last week a sense they will win from any position has grown stronger - this triumph coming after win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was at that stage they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this World Cup is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is yet to win a global event as skipper.

Success in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
