Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, including the pastel suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in crafting form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her US tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world says farewell to a authentic original whose impact on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
